Well " I sit here in sunny Denmark basking in the news about Damian H. Important point before I start , so glad the club choose Damian H over Ken H, Hinkelys speach was what finished me ; I have just finished reading DH press reports and watching his press conference , DH was a little nervous to start with, but once he settled down, he spoke well and had clear points to put across , I did how ever begin to cringe when I here , I will show them the door if they dont put in and so on , Déja vu anyone ?

I am the first person on my knees looking up to Huey and praying that he is what the club needs, but this type of media talk is from a very in-experienced leader, (He should know better as he has to keep to his word now) he might have been asked to speak this way for the media and to help with the membership drive for next year but I really do hope that we do not have a repeat of the last 9 years with Spud and TW, so lets not all get carried away as DH has a massive task ahead of him ,

Stay cool Hiroshima, exciting times ahead I hope.

Was not that keen on Hardwick (only because two other clubs knocked him back) but he has passion and excitement for the RFC and is as hungry as they come.

Think, with Gale and March supporting him, that a solid infrastructure around him will be a boost. Also it will not be "all about me" as in Wallace's day when what he said went re too many things.

Hmmmmm!

A new era begins - last time this happened I got so enthusiastic and convinced that the RFC was about to rise to its rightful position in the AFL jungle.

One bitten twice shy!

I am pleased the "process" is complete - now the "Proof is in the Pudding"

So far our new coach has promised - "a play for the team" and "when it is your turn to get the hard ball" and "Show you the door if you don't put in" and lastly "each player who leaves will be a better player both on and off the field"

OK - DO IT!

For I remember "an attacking team that will kick 16 goals a game!"

Actions not words please..........................I'm not being negative............more like pragmatic................

Um, Yeah. Happens every time and us supporters eat it up for breakfast and start dreaming of a better tomorrow. Wallace said the right things, Spud did and Walls said some lovely things of reaching for the cup etc...
But nothing happened and nothing changed.
I'll give Hardwick 8 months before his words mean nothing and the players are still skinny marshmellows.

More things change the more they stay the same

There's no more reason to believe that will be the case than there is to believe things will improve. None of us know what the future holds, and we've been let down heaps, but I almost feel sorry for anyone with such a negative attitude. It must be hard to get any pleasure out of footy if you can't look forward to the future.

Words don't fill me with enthusiasm either. I understand the need to make the right noises but to me actions speak louder than words The one thing different to most recent seasons is that we have change in our off-field team and a more stable position off-field . That brings reason to hope and look forward to things improving.

I'm happy I have reason to look forward to next season because a few days ago I wondered if I'd ever be enthused about footy again. That doesn't guarantee success but it sure makes my life more enjoyable for a while at least.

My perception is that Hardwick is hard, honest man who speaks the truth. Unlike Wallace who was a snake oil salesman and Frawley who didn't have the football coach smarts of his opposition peers.

I'm confident that we have a football smarrt coach that will also back up what he says with actions. The reality is that until this list is turned over (and that will test the 'new' recruiting department), it will be difficult for Hardwick to have as much on-field impact as he would like. However I'm sure we'll see improvement. In the first instance, I'll be interested to see how many and who he delists.

You have summed up the situation beautifull, Rosalita.

If there was a tiny doubt in my mind it would be the being hard at the ball bit, but nothing said about improving skill levels. All very well to be excellent at tackling, putting your body on the line, but all to no avail if the resultant kick, handlball is not effective. Early days I know, and hopefully, this lack of skill at Tigerland will be addressed as well as being hard at it.

Having said that I also, like Rosy, look forward to 2010 with enthusiasm and hope. But don't we all every year, that's the nature of the beast.

I think Damien is a great fit for this club at the moment.

He strikes me as a bloke that is honest and will not be afraid to take an axe to this list. We are so far away from doing anything meaningful I really think game plans etc are the least of our worries. As long as he cleans out the dead wood, gets the team tackling and sheparding and get some pride back in the jumper I will be happy.

Welcome to Tigerland Damien.

Do you not hope? If so, why continue to support the club? Has it just become a cross you are willing to bear?Sad.

Graystar, I think the point is , if skills are not improved by the players, the situation of having to recover a turned over hard ball will arise more frequently. this will then put pressure on the perpetrators from team mates, when they are required to put their head over the ball to regain possession , to improve their skills. Accountability to each other, is something the players have to develop within the playing group,. The coach can only dictate the cultural frame work in which this happens, with specific criteria. I think you will find ,under Beavis there will be less pats on the ass for poorly executed skill based turn overs :scold

Its pretty well accepted that we again will be in for more pain next year.Proof in the pudding on weather DH was the right choice won't be seen until 2011 at best.

Gee, I hope you are wrong Madcow. Personally, I would be looking for a vast improvement next year. Then again it won't be hard to improve on this year will it??

We,ll have a very young list Graystar. We have some pretty big holes in regards to our skill level etc.We may improve attitude wise and no repeats of games like the recent one against Collingwood but we have a long way to go.

PS:I don;t think its as bad as when Wallace took over.

Not so sure skip. Wallace had 5 top 20 picks to use from his first draft and Brown, Johnson, Richo, Bowden etc at their prime.

Hardwick may well not be the messiah but you can be sure he won't be as bad as the last bloke.

Wouldn,t be that hard for DH to be better than the last bloke JB.But then again the same thing was said about the last Bloke in regards to the other last bloke. :hihi :hihi :hihi

i will be in perth watching the tigers last game of the year and if the players want to impress the new coach then they will beat the weagles , otherwise a few players will get their marching orders by sat morning

he isn't a magician, he will only be able to do what he can do with what he has

but

i think he will be fair dinkum with the playing group and the club and not try to sell us supporters rubbish - and to be honest compared to what we have had in recent times - i am happy with that for a start ........

Agree with all that.

Hardwick did use some classic cliches yesterday.
Terms like 'Blueprint for success' and 'Richmond's 11th Premiership' are all very nice but I've heard it all before so it tapers my excitement.

The process has decided Beavis is the best candidate and that's what matters. Hardwick has my support but I could care less what he said in the presser yesterday.

Proof is indeed in the pud.

Yes indeed it is deja vu...all over again...but that's to be expected. Happens every time with a new coach at any club. As the sensible ones are saying we'll just keep calm about it and let the results do the talking. Chances are there will be very tough times ahead for us over the next 3-4 seasons as the list will get culled extensively at the end of each season.

Damian Hardwick has obviously been given a clear mandate: do what needs to be done to make us competitive. No questions asked.

I am one of the sceptics also and will wait again until i see results. Until then to me Hardwick is just another coach who potentially could be spat on by some feral in three years time because we've gone nowhere.
