Crucifying the drink-driving AFL players

It wasn't that long ago that a fringe Richmond player was basically crucified for being caught drink-driving in his home town in the country, when he went to drive 100M home from the local pub.

He was pilloried in the media, the club lost $50,000 in sponsorship from the TAC and the media again "stuck the boots" into the RFC.

Now we have a West Coast player attempting to escape from the police while drink-driving, and also a Hawthorn player who lied about his situation.

Will we see the media come down as hard on these players as they did on Royce Vardy, will we see their clubs treated as badly as Richmond was?

Will we finally see some other clubs treated in the same way the media treats us?

I know I won't be betting any of my cash on such an outcome.....

At the very least they should be treated like any other member of the community who are accused of breaking the law.

As role models (for their position in the public gaze as sporting figures) they should not have any leniency shown to them as this sets a double standard - see, told you - if you're an AFL footballer, you can get away with anything!

David C,

I think Richmond brought this a bit on themselves by Brayshaw and Co all becoming holier than thou and practically inviting ridicule. Agree though that Vardy was absolutely crucified.

I totally agree with you David C,

Mark Mercuri was caught driving a car, while his license was suspended. It was suspended for drink driving. Only a some acticle in fine print was published in the newspaper.

The media is always very harsh on Richmond.

Collingwood being last years runners up and sitting on the bottom of the ladder, no publicity. Richmond sitting on the bottomer of the ladder, trash printed on the back paper everyday.

Alot of the media just like seeing Richmond doing poorly as they want to read the crap. Ala Mike Sheenan and co.

Exactly right. The media morons lead by King Dud Sheahan love getting so excited with their mouth-watering exclusives against Richmond.

Isnt it interesting that players start sobbing and regretting that they lied after they have been nabbed?

I wonder if thay hadnt been nabbed whether the same regret would have befallen them.

What about our own A Fiora, who crashed his car, ran away, then when the cops arrived, ran back around the corner and said "Aw geez, someone stole my car and then crashed it!" Can't work out whether he is a genious or a numbskull... ;D

If you watch him on the ground Dean the answer to your question will be crystal clear.
