WATCHING THE DEFECTIVES AT PUNT ROAD
Richmond has monumentally failed to deliver and the pundits have for some weeks now been busily speculating on the future of coach Danny Frawley. A good lad of decent descent as rightfully befits a man called "Spud", he might need the luck of the Irish to survive post season?
But he still has another year on his contract and he has no plans to fall on his sword before then, so until such time as football operations supremo Greg miller puts a bomb under the club - there are others who might otherwise feel obliged to help the coach on his way.
Frawley might be better employed not necessarily looking in the direction of an already mightily twitchy board room, or preoccupied with the critical post season review of football operations to be undertaken by Miller, but look more carefully among his own?
It seems a lot of players are somewhat bemused if not downright befuddled at the way former Carlton coach Wayne "Battler" Brittain goes about some of his assistant coaching duties. It's ok to be ambitious but should he be openly contradicting the senior coach with some training drills as had been alleged by one Crikey spy?
For a man with no AFL playing career and a very ordinary record of trading when in charge at Optus Oval, and who left Carlton in a downward spiral with an ageing list, it's hard to work out why he should have such tickets on himself. Perhaps he believes all that crap that David Parkin used to sprout about him. He would be the only one who does, as big Jack makes abundantly clear in his new book launched tomorrow.
