Club Funding Ladder For 2023

Worth remembering this list next time you hear GCS, GWS or any of the other northern clubs go on about how they put in so much time and money into their academies and deserve the rewards.

Yeah its annoying to hear GCS fans saying "but we should get access to these players because we've invested the money in them". Nope, you've invested every other clubs money in them. Whether thats money generated directly by the clubs or via TV rights, if TV rights money was split by TV audience numbers for specific games, they would likely get 1 of the lowest amounts of funding from TV, so again the big teams are essentially subsidizing those weak clubs that don't get high in game or TV audience numbers as they are over compensated for their lower TV audience numbers

The bottom 4 are the 4 clubs that knocked back the AFL COVID "assistance" package that came with a lot of clauses given the AFL a lot more visibility into a clubs finances.

Guess we're still getting punished.

I was just thinking how long those same 4 clubs have been anchoring the bottom of the financial assistance ladder

Only a handful of clubs bring in the fans, sponsors, t.v. rights n money. The AFL then shares all the bounty evenly with all the worker clubs in the AFL society after quietly skimming off their fair share for governing and constantly expanding the game.
