Just started this topic to negate the 'Cloke is a wanker' post 'cos I find it offensive. See my post on that thread.

Here you go, Tigersnake, though I know a fan like you probably doesn't need this:

Number: 16/33/53
Height: 196
Weight: 85.5
Previous Clubs: Oakleigh
Date of Birth: 28/1/1955

David played his early football on the half-forward line before switching into the ruck. Short for a ruckman he made up for the lack of inches with his determination and excellent use of his 16 stone frame. He had the ability to bring smaller players into the game with his strong bullocking work, clever knock-ons and by using his physical strength to split open packs and clear the way for his teammates. He was a strong mark and a hard man to move in physical clashes. A fine team man he was a great protector of his smaller teammates. A player who never gave in no matter what the circumstances were he also gathered many possessions by playing a kick behind the play. His great football nous and judgment often saw him mark uncontested in these situations and his unusual kicking style usually found its mark. He won the club’s Best First Year Player award in 1974 and was Inside Footballs VFL Recruit of the Year. He was vice captain in 1980 and 1981, and was awarded Club Life Membership in 1990. He is also a Life Member of the AFL. He was a member of the 1974 and 1980 Premiership sides and captain of Richmond’s last Grand Final side in 1982. He represented Victoria nine times and was selected in the 1979 All-Australian Team. David ran third in the 1978 and 1979 Best and Fairest awards. In 1983, he crossed to Collingwood where he was vice captain between 1983 and 1987 as well as running second in the 1984 “Brownlow Medal” count. He turned in many fine performances with Richmond and Tiger supporters were glad he decided to finish his playing days at Punt Road. Although he was 36, he still played very consistent senior football and finished his AFL/VFL career with three best-on-ground performances in his last three games, scoring nine “Brownlow” votes in the process. His last game was a fantastic finish to a great career. He had started in the ruck against Carlton; however, late in the first quarter he moved to the forward-pocket where he finished with 8 goals 1 point and helped Richmond to a fine victory. He kicked 5 goals or more 15 times including 7 against Hawthorn in 1979 and 6 against Collingwood in the 1980 Grand Final. He was playing coach of A.C.T Club Ainslie in 1992 and 1993 and led them to the Premiership in both seasons as well as coaching the combined A.C.T side and winning the Club Best and Fairest in 1992. At the end of 1993, Ainslie amazingly sacked him despite his impressive record over the previous two seasons. He coached VFA club Port Melbourne, in 1994, playing four times, and for the past two seasons he has coached Oakleigh Districts. David is the younger brother of Peter CLOKE and brother-in-law of former umpire Peter CAMERON. A former bank worker, he also ran a licensed bottle shop in Kew. Thanks to the RFC website.

Love that you're confident enough in your sexuality to admit you loved his buttocks... ::)

Have to admit, I've always been a bit fascinated by that moustache - the thing's the size of a good English privet hedge. Great player, though - Tiger legend.

Thanks Hanno, I remember a Dog supporter yelling out at the Western Oval in the early 90s "Look, it's old big-arse Cloke". (Leon Cameron took us apart in the same game). Where it says on the info you posted "excellent use of his 16 stone frame", that is actually code for 'he used to buffett opponents out of the way with a deft nudge of his arse in marking or ruck duels." I used to love watching Clokey scare the you-know-what out of the opposition.

Clokey was a bloody champ I was devastated when he left the Tigers to go and play for that other mob, My duffle coat was useless after that :(

he isnt a wanker... but cloke junior is definately over rated.

TG your not the only one whose dufflecoat was ruined because cloke jumped ship, i balled my eyes out back then and never got another players number on my back again, instead i got a giant tiger put on the back.

As the post on the other thread said an absolute dud and a wanker ;D ;D ;D ;
How I wish we had a few big Barge arsed wankers like Clokey playing for us nowadays.

I totally agree. David Cloke was a great player for us and when he, Raines and Taylor left us, Richmond started falling apart.

From what I have heard, Collingwood offered big money and they left.

As for Jason Cloke, I'd take Coughlan any day before Jason. Notice we dont hear anything in the media anymore about why we didnt draft Jason.

Jason is no where near as good as Cogs

Clokey's actual playing weight was 99.5k but the rest of his stats are interesting. He played 219 Tiger games, kicking 272 goals and then played 114 games for THEM, kicking another 49 goals. Not a bad AFL/VFL tally.

Here's a ponderable, if he had not returned to RFC for the 1990 season might he have played in the premiership side of that year?

Nah he was already on the out with Lethal, who was busy bringing blokes like Monky and Manson through. Didn't want any big slow old blokes around.

Funny that, I've never owned a duffle coat and wouldn't have the faintest idea what one looked like. You sure you don't mean TD? ;D

Count me in as another who had Clokey's number on the back and didn't get another one when he left.

Whether his kid is overrated or not, it still sticks in my throat that he plays for ..... argh, I can't even bring myself to say it.

If you want to see a classic Richmond duffle coat circa 1979, there is one in a glass case in the new museum in the Melbourne history section. Its a bewdy.

LOL yeah sorry TG...... after all i am a simpleton apparently

Always been a Clokey fan - wore the number 33 proudly in all my football playing days - handy that Knighter took it on.

Problem with not drafting Cloke the younger is not necessarily missing Jason but the next two. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Beck pick Petifer first in that draft?

My hind-sight-o-meter tells it me it would be great to have Cogs and the Clokes!!

Have seen that duffle coat in the museum tigersnake and 100% agree. It's an absolute corker! Best exhibit in the whole place.

I miss the old duffle coats but I guess its like anything else, you move on. :'(

let's bring back the duffle coat! Can you still get those player name strips to sew on the sleeves? Mum wouldn't buy me a duffle coat, I had all my stuff sewn on a poxy el-cheapo challenger sports black & yellow tracksuit top. Had to sew it on myself to so it was pretty messy, lot of loose threads and patches hanging off. I was very jealous of a girl at schools fantastic Roachy duffle coat.

LOL Tigersnake,

actually i still have my second ever dufflecoat to this day, which was the one i wore after cloke broke my heart, its now being worn by my large tiger teddy, cant actually believe i fitted into it , i was only little.

but it would be good to see the duffle coat return in melbourne just for footy!!! it was unique, although living in perth i dont think the duffle coat would be 2 popular not cold enough i would melt away ;D
