Must start by saying I don't have Foxtel so I am not sure how commercial free to air TV coverage and Foxtel compares but ...

I really enjoyed 10's coverage of the GF. Thought some of the camera angles (ie. shot of Bartel's banana goal) and the coverage from about 60m out moving towards goal was absolutely amazing. Give credit to 10. I thought the footage of the actual game was sensational.

For those that have Foxtel ... is that the norm for home and away coverage on Foxtel? Is it worth getting it for the footy? Should my passionate dislike for a service that seems to pride itself on peddling crap (reruns of F-Troop, Dads Army, Friends and rubbish documentaries such as 'Hitler's Secret Bunker Diaries' and 'A History of Earwax') be overlooked for the footy next year? Shame they don't offer a sports only package.

I don't think Foxtel's coverage is as good as Ch.10 but just the fact that they are ad free during the qtr and as of next season will have every game live, it's gotta be worth it I reckon.

As for all the other stuff, there is a lot of crap but there's some good stuff too such as all the AFL360, League teams, on the couch, National draft, etc footy wise and heaps of other sports if your a sport head

Foxtel's camera work probably isn't as good as Ten's , but it;s certainly miles ahead of Seven's coverage. Of course Foxtel don't have the Skycam cable thingy as yet, but I doubt that it would ever be in operation for most H&A games anyway.

Foxtel certainly ain't all it should be for what it costs, but I'd rather watch Dad's Army than 99.9% of the crap on FTA these days. On The Buses, Stand -up comedy ,The Soup & even Endless Hitler Docos > The Masterchef Wants To Swap A Wife , A Current Day Tonight, Boredom Security, & Two And A Half Jokes. (Fox News alone is funnier than anything on FTA)

Thanks. I agree with your take on commercial FTA. Can't abide most of the dreck on commercial TV! That's why I find myself drawn to HBO, AMC and BBC series ... The Wire, Breaking Bad, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, the Misfits, Mad Men, Flight of the Concords etc ...

The cross promoting of other Network 10 shows was incredibly annoying . Even the Young Talent Time auditions got a run .

However they are all doing it now even on the News and Current Affairs shows . I hate it.

Foxtel and Ten have one thing in common - crap commentators (with the exception of Huddo). But Fox Sports is good as its ad free siren to siren and you get to watch a lot more footy which will be better next season again. If Fox Sports can get some better commentators and get rid of 'special comments' men like Spud and Roos it will be all the better.

As for FTA, I am over it - over having to wait months to see a new episode of a TV show I like and over 'reality' crap like MasterCrap, Renovators, Block, Australian Hasnt Got Talent, X Moron Factor etc... give me Foxtel any day!

Excuse me for hijacking this thread but this is a point I have argued with friends about in the past. I assume here you are talking about the goal he kicked from the boundary line following an on-the-full decision. This kick was screwed right-to-left, or "around the body". I always thought the expression "banana" (for a right footer) was used exclusively for the kick that screwed left-to-right, or away from the body.

Thoughts, comments?

That's my definition of a banana kick. I think I've heard it called a checkside kick too. Dunno. But it's what we all practiced at school during recess.

Screw around the body, so to speak.

Spot on, the banana kick is the opposite of what Bartel did.

Correct. Barrel was really a variation of the traditional "step off the mark and snap". I was trying it today but dis better with the traditional snap.
