Seeing Gas is out for a year, and he and Richo were both Vice Captains should the club elect a new VC to replace him?
It would be assumed a vice captain should lead the side if Campbo is injured, but I have serious doubts about Richo's leadership capacity.
Spraying team mates isn't acceptable and shouldn't be rewarded with a second crack at it if Campbo doesn't come up for the next game.
Apart from the coin toss there wasn't much evidence of leadership out there at all yesterday.

Richo should be dropped for the next game and in fact should never get another game with richmond. Like Dunc, I admire his efforts but he is our biggest liability on the playing field by far (Frawely is our biggest liability off-field). He should be traded to the bulldogs for robert murphy or nathan brown (both former tiger supporters) and we should get a decent coach to start fresh.
Crying like a baby when the ball doesn't get to him is a disgrace and immature and it is a joke that he is in our team let alone captain. The guy needs to be on a psychologists couch, not on the playing field. I felt sick watching him on TV and embarrassed that I go to games to watch him play. Richo - you've had enough warning and now its bye bye. However in saying this the coach should be able to discipline all his players - another reason why Tony Shaws apprentice is a dud coach.

Duncan would get my vote ;D

or Greg Stafford (looks like I will finally need to find someone else to fantasise about, I have to admit now that Dunc's days might be over) :(

Dunno about that Rosy. Maybe a good spray is what some of them need. And no I am not condoning the Richo/Rodan incident

I'm sure a spray was in order. A spray for the inept performance, a spray for the lack of disclipine, a spray for the lack of heart....Not a typical "kick it to me or you'll cop it" type spray Richo gives. That isn't leadership, it's personal.

A team without a good onfield captain is like a ship without a rudder and Richmond bobbed about like a cork in the ocean yesterday.

Still only my opinion I know Gus, it's interesting to see how others saw Richo's leadership yesterday.

Totally agree with Harry to a certain extent, he is a liability on the field but should play to get his trade value up ;)

Mark Coughlan is the obvious choice, cool head and lets his playing do the talking, and did anyone else see the disgust he and Newman showed after the game, those two are rapidly becoming favorites of mine and I for one would welcome captaincy for now bestowed on them, one eye for now one for the future, also Otto has to get a look!

Well said Harry. Expresses my sentiments about Richo exactly. Have to disagree about the trading though. If i was a bulldog i wouldnt let up Murphy or Brown for Richo. No way known! Hopefully Richo has some good games however in the second half of the year and we can fool some team into taking him. But if he has some good games I fear the only ones we will fool is ourselves.

His sooking to the umpires for free kicks and sooking to the players that didn't deliver the ball to him properly was the most disgraceful thing i've ever seen. Might as well have gave the captaincy to Kayne Pettifer.

Let's not kid ourselves, Richo might be able to captain Richmond to a win over a drunken Essendon side in London, but leadership material he definitely is not.

Hurry back Cambo, please, hurry back....

So sad yet so true and so funny at the same time.

Can you elaborate on Coughlan and Newman after the game, I didnt see that, was it shown on TV, or did you see it at the ground?

With Cambo having 2 years left, we need to find someone to take over, and fast.

Coughlan, Newman and Johnson could be possibles, throw Chaffey into that group too

I saw it both at the ground, then on the reply after the game on Foxtel.

Coughlan looked bitter, he looked dissapointed, was swearing at/to himself, like he was in shock, coming up the race he looked at the supporters then just shook his head.

Newman was on his butt as the siren went and had a look of disbelief, on tv they showed it for about 2 seconds, he was there for a while though and looked shocked.

Coughlan, Johnson, Newman, Ottens should be the new look leadership gropup once Wayne has gone, in fact add Wayne now and add this group, sack Richo from there and of course Gas is out for the year but I wouldnt have him in the leadership group.

In Richo's defence, it was a good lead and a good opportunity wasted. However, it did sort of set the tone for the rest of the game. I cringed when I saw it happen and told him to settle down which he seemed to do (how he managed to hear me 1500km away is a mystery). I was almost in tears myself when the game finished - so near yet so far.

Hi Tigerbob. I was thinking exactly the same thing over the weekend. Great minds obviously think alike. ;)

Having been at the game, I only got to see Mark's reaction when I saw the replay. I've had a high opinion of him for some time. Even though he may not be ready for captaincy, and only because he doesn't think he is, then we may have to wait a bit longer.

But I totally agree that we need to change the leadership group. Bring in some new spirit and a new direction.

To me, it's obvious that Newman and Coughlan are the way of the future. They are selfless, have a great desire to succeed, think about their football and their teammates, have great courage and are inspirational in the things they do.

Johnson adds some experience and a level head. I agree about Otto. He's an unknown quantity.

The sooner these changes are made, the better. With the right guidance and support, they will prove good, if not great leaders.

In Rodan's defence he kicked the ball to be marked near the square by Newman who goaled.
What chance would Richo have been scoring from deep in the pocket where he led to.
Good choice Rodo.

I am not sure if everyone is aware of who makes up the Tiges leadership group. There are 8:

Cambo
Gas
Richo
Staff
Bowden
Dunc
Otto
Rogers

Staff replaced Leon Cameron this season.

I agree I think it time to bring in a couple of the youngsters. Cogs, Rodan or Newman seem good choices

RIcho doesnt deserve captaincey, he certainly made me laugh when he said he wanted to one day captain richmond. I hope that day never comes, the way he has a cry if the ball doesnt get kicked to him is absolutley sickening.
Whats the point of kicking to him, if (like agaisnt carlton) he has kicked 0.3 and has like 90% chance of kicking another point or worse out on the full.

I totally agree with Harry, and aslo with TIgerbob.

Coughlan and Newman are both teriffic choices for captaincey/vice - captaincey. They would both get my vote ahead of richos any day.

I also saw cogs and newman after the game, the looked so disapointed and not happy that they had let them selves and the supporters down.

Richo needs to grow up and move out of kindergarten.

And on the trading him to the doggies - The doggies wouldnt be stupid enough to trade for richo, neither would any other club

I agree with Rosy completely, Richo (god bless him) does not have the onfield personality to CONSITENTLY inspire the troops, I think that we could also look towards Chaf.

I'll say from the outset I'm a Richo fan.

As much as the Carlton game hurt, it was almost more disappointing for me to see Richo's not demonstrate any signs of leadership on the day. And the spray on Rodan was a disgrace. I really thought he would relish this opportunity - he was an embarrassment.

That said, he is a match winner and we need to get him on the right track. In my view he hasn't recovered from the humiliation when Frawley dragged him in the Sydney game. Drag him for leading to the wrong spots but no demonstrating some physicality.

Newman and Coglan are our future leaders - a bit soon for captaincy though. I'd give the nod to Staff for a few years until these guys are a little more proven and matured.

Come-on Richo, you've taken a few steps back but you haven't lost me just yet.

Go tigers!

IMO run with players make the best captains. They're always in the thick of things and are able to direct the traffic better. Besides the fact that I don't think Richo is captain material, how can he give guidance to players from FF or CHF. If you look at history I would bet that the majority of the best captains have come from the midfield.

as much as i reckon Staff has been one of our most inspired trades from other clubs (along with Cammo) i don't believe he is Captain material. he's only played 25 odd games for us. I believe you have to earn the right to be Captain. Playmaker of the backline and Mr Consistency Mark Chaffey would get my vote. has great work ethic and excellent skills and brings other players into the game with his use of the ball. Has played 110 odd games and has a cool head and plenty of experience. I do agree that Coggs and Newman would be excellent choices when they mature as footballers/leaders. as for Richo..................
