Richmond star Joel Bowden’s run of more than 100 consecutive AFL matches is set to continue after he was cleared on Monday of charging Fremantle’s Ben Cunningham.

Bowden, who has played in Richmond’s past 109 matches dating back to round five 1998, was to face the AFL tribunal on Tuesday night.

However despite being reported by two field umpires - Mark Fussell and David Corcoran – during the Tigers’ practice match loss in Geraldton on Saturday, the charge was withdrawn.

That ensures that provided he is not injured in the Tigers’ remaining two practice games – Bowden will be available to continue his current streak of matches when Richmond opens the AFL season against Collingwood on March 28.

Only Melbourne’s Adem Yze (113 matches) and Carlton’s Simon Beaumont (111 matches) currently have better consecutive match streaks than Bowden with Melbourne’s Jim Stynes holding the all-time record of 244 consecutive games between 1987 and 1998.
