Don't know bout you people but I've never rated Bowden very highly.
I mean he gets alot of possessions but what does he do with them?
Still waiting for him to lay a tackle or dive into a pack ala Cogs(bless his soul)

If you play for Richmond, play hard or not at all.

That was our breaky talk this morning smasha.

The difference in 2 players.

Cogs bump at the start of tha last quarter was brave as. He was obvioulsy hurt but was up and into it again.

Joel Bowden running flat out at Lynch and pulled out of the contest.

Very Pettiferesque Joel. You can get the easy posessions all you like but every now and again all players have to put their body on the line for team mates and you failed.

Soft as.

Best players.

The Age
Richmond: J Bowden A Kellaway G Stafford G Tivendale B Ottens.

RFC site
Richmond: Ottens, Coughlan, Chaffey, Cameron, Bowden, Stafford.

I guess I saw Joels game differently through my telly screen.

Then again maybe it was done on stats. Like Deano said, stats shmats.

In the Herald sun our best are cogs staff tiva and andy kella. At least they had the sense not to put Joel in our best and if you look at his stats he had 7 clangers. Shocking effort Bowden just pathetic.

Joel Bowden is a great player playing under a dud coach and with too many dud players. He tries to make things happen instead of playing the boring predictable frawely style, which is why some of his efforts come unstuck because his dumb teamates don't know what's going on half the time. Joel Bowdens talents are being wasted by the unimaginative frawely and for the best interest for joel in order for him to realise his brilliance is to part company with the dud frawely. For me i'd rather see Frawely go than joel but i suspect alot of you out there would like the reverse - how ironic. If you want to bag someone have a look at Rogers who has managed to fool everyone by getting a game each week. Not only has he got no skill and awareness he is also soft - and if you ask me much softer than Bowden - have a look at both players tackle counts if you don't believe me.

Not all player have heart like Coglan, infact very few do.
There is a place in sides for the skillful type - but Bowden is not that.

Bowden earns his spot in the side but is definately overrated. He makes far too many skill errors.

Trade him - we should get something reasonable in return.

Comparing Bowden with Rogers is an unfair comparison .....apples and oranges.

Although lemon is an applicable fruit .

Funniest moment of the game was when Joel tried to baulk, held the ball out to show off to the Lions player and ran straight into him.
Holding the ball bigtime Joel. Almost as funny as Staff trying to get around Sandilands. ;D

I don't believ its an unfair comparison - they both wear the yellow and black and they both rotate through the middle. Its all about an even contribution from the 22 named - some do it by hardness at the ball, and some do it by making the play and being creative. Rogers does nothing of the above yet is immune to scrutiny.

Wonder if we could fool the West Coast Eagles into giving us Chris Judd for Bowden and Fiora.

Even though I think Bowden is capable of great things, I'd probably be in favour of a swap of Bowden for someone like Robert Murphy from the dogs.

No more quick fixes - I don't care if we don't get Judd or anyone else. I hope that we don't go for quick fix fringe players like a Guerra everyone is talking about. We MUST get rid of the dead wood in Bidders, King, Mills, Rogers, Cameron, Duncan, Pettifer and we MUST draft 5-7 quality youngsters and we MUST get a new coach in Wallace or O'Donnell. This IMO will point RFC in the right direction. We have a good core group of players BUT we must build from that. We lack depth, youngsters coming through and a decent coach.

Anyone watch the Freo Hawks game in Tasmania? Byron Schammer for the dockers played a very good game. He was a touted top 5 pick but he was overlooked for Schulz. Another Beck up?

I don't disagree with a lot of your points Harry, but does the system allow us to make all these changes in one year.

Do we have the finances to fund it. Can we afford to pay out FRAWLEYS contract??

Hopefully the expiration of BOURKE and DAFFY's contract will free up some money, but we have lost big time on membership this year.

I think it is inevitable that alot of those coming out of contract at the end of the year will not get offered new contracts anyway, so a lot of that will take care of itself.

I am just hoping that they are drafting some strategies now to improve some of our obvious deficiencies.

I also think we must trade agressively and that is going to mean we will need to trade some name players for draft picks.

I just wonder that if we had drafted a WELLS, a SCHAMMER or co how much game time would they have got with us.

Again I don't know if it was highlighted on TV. But i was glad to see Joel get dragged after kicking the ball 50 metres straight to one of those Brissy backman.

Dragged and straight to the phone - glad to see it finally ;)

Bowden, IMO, was one of the main reasons Brisbane got back in the game after our very positive start. His first 5 disposals were an absolute disgrace - nothing less. While 17 blokes were playing good, smart, hard footy, Bowden (while trying to create) turned the ball over every time.

He should have been dragged a lot earlier than he was and I'm now a firm believer in trading Bowden sooner, as his worth is still decent.

I agree that he's a good player and will probably star under a good coach, but he just ain't doin' it for Richmond.

On our performance, I thought we actually played well for 3 quarters of the match although our foward play left a lot to be desired. Still, if we play like that every week with some of those duds in the side, I'd be content until the years end.

I agree Harry, we've got a good core of players to build on but we MUST rid ourselves of the useless ones being the Rogers, Bidders, Pettifers, etc............not to mention the DUD himself!

As for the negative talk on Fiora, IMO he's got heaps to give which is slowly but surely becoming more evident each week.

It's time to go Joel........ the difference between joel and rogers is we might actually get something for joel.

His baulk was pathetic.... and that kick in the second quarter on the wing went about 15 meters straight into a lions waiting arms, it summed up how he plays when the pressure is really on, we mock richo but joel takes the cake.

As for swapping joel for judd, no chance! WCE wont be fooled and Judd is rated that highly over here i doubt he is going anywhere.
