On after the news with Mark Fine and Geoff Poulter for an hour - have heard a few of these interviews and they can be a really good listen.

Really good interview with Barry, ranging from how he came to be at Richmond, positions and players he played with. Recalled the time he kept Hudson goalless by playing 20 metres behind him.

Hopefully, SEN have a podcast of the interview on their website as it was very good listening, Barry was really well spoken and had some great recollections.

I heard a little bit of this interview last night. This guy is a great former Tiger from a wonderful era.

He probably didn't mention this but he has the distinction of playing his last game of VFL Footy in a winning Grand Final team, which Shane Crawford emulated a couple of years ago.

Barry Richardson also kicked goals with four of his last five kicks.

Will never forget the photo of him prior to a Richmond v Carlton game when he was Chairman of Selectors for Carlton. He undid the buttons of his shirt to reveal a Tigers jumper underneath, with his index finger covering his nose to signify quiet. He claimed that Richmond was still his team, as once a Tiger, always a Tiger. Good on him. Maybe he should call that goose that wore number 10 during his days and explain that to him.

And yet there's many who crucified Rob Walls for being a "Carlton man" during his tenure with us.

Richardson is why I support Melbourne Victory. Merrick is married to Richardson's sister. No true Tiger supporter could ever support these new kids on the block.
;)

'Bones' did some work on my back a few years ago - he told me some great yarns about the old days at the Tiges...particularly about TJ and his temper in the change rooms and the 1980 GF (old school coaching methods!).
Absolute ripping bloke.

Wouldn"t be too many people who could claim to have been a player, coach and president of their football club.

He wasn't president long enough to try and pull us out of the mire that the Wilson era left us in unfortunately.

Is it possible to save them as MP3 files - or must they be listened to online.

Bones No 17 was on my first ever jumper, dad wouldnt let me get Neil Balme..Ive alawys been a bit dissapointed that he hasn't found himself back at punt rd, lord knows he's been everywhere else, Melb, Carlton and Cats...he's a respected figure in the game, I'm sure he could have contributed positively :'(

Thanks for the links mate.
Bloody good listening. Geez he's a well spoken and very self deprecating man.

I've never been able to forgive him for taking over from Tommy Hafey.

But do we know the real story behind Hafey leaving?

I always thought the club sacked him, but these days I am not so sure anymore.

They didn't sack him, as I understand it he left because there was a board vote or something on his coaching and he won but it wasn't unanimous. Because it wasn't unanimous he left. Graeme Richmond may even have been the one who voted against him.

I think you're right. I recall 10 of the 12 board members at the time voting in favour of extending Hafey's contract. Because it wasn't unanimous, Hafey felt he wouldn't have the full support of the board and chose to walk. Another example of a very stupid club at play.
