Hello All,

As the new, and extremely proud president of Alex Gilmour I thought id have a little something to say about this young Tiger.

(I would of written a lot sooner but work commitments have been killing me)

So far this season, Alex showed some glimpses of what I thought he'd be, but unfortunately for Alex, and us the fans injuries have been the main issue in his season thus far.

Alex is very slight, but he is a hard, in and under type with good poise, balance and skill that reminds me of one Scott West but with more pace. I may be expecting a bit much because Scotty is a champion, but I do believe this kid will be that good!

I have witnessed one Coburg game, and endless amount of Tasmania tapes on Alex and I honestly believe we will see a future leader of this club.

Once I heard his name called out with our selection in the National Draft I had a little smile on my face. He wasnt the most hyped and few thought he may be entering the draft a little early due to his age and size, well let me tell you Richmond got a bargain with this one.

To make it all that much sweeter, Alex is a Passionate Richmond supporter.....What more could you ask?

I want Alex (injuries permitting) to at least taste senior footy this year (like all our kids) and get a feel of the pace and hardness and so forth. With a solid preseason and about 5 kilos of muscle, we will all be pleasantly suprised of what Alex Gilmour brings to this football club.

Its time for change......

I've seen Alex twice at Coburg. He moves like a player I have seen before but can't quite put my finger on who. There is some resemblence with West - I know where you are coming from Bob - but there is a player, past player perhaps, that he reminds me more of.

In the games I've seen Alex, he didn't really do much. He appeared a bit unfit as he was puffing pretty hard and was benched on a few occassions. Seeing that he has just come back from a leg injury, this is to be expected.

The first thing I look at when I assess a player is how they move - whether they know where to run and position themselves. This is what excites me most about Nathan Foley. Gilmour seemed good in this area also.

He has definately got good hands - clean hands under pressure is critical. He seems well rounded without any glaring deficiencies.

Seeing that I haven't seen him when fully fit, I will refrain from judging him too much at this stage.

Whether we did the right thing by drafting him with our first pick is debatable at this stage. However, recruiting well rounded kids that have scope for improvement is the right decision if we, as a club, want to move in the right direction.

considering that brisbane were set to pounce on gilmour we did well to snag him.
