It's quite amazing how similar (but even a little bit better) our current situation is to the same point in 2019.
After round 13, 2019, we were 7-6, 92% and in eighth place. We had just been beaten by a (then) powerful interstate club away (Adelaide). We had a bye in round 14 and as a result found ourselves in ninth spot by the end of round 14. We didn't lose another game and won the flag.
Right now we are 7-6, 105.3% and eighth, and cannot be displaced any lower no matter what happens next week.
So given the negativity in the Weagles game day thread, I thought I would have a look at the game day thread for that Crows game in 2019: https://www.puntroadend.com/threads/game-day-vs-crows.55197/
Interesting to note that it is nowhere near as negative, despite the worse situation, on paper at least. From memory I think one key difference in favour of 2019 was that we had been even more decimated by injury then than this year and were expecting more in the way of improvement because of returning players. On the other hand, we only had one flag in our back pocket at that time instead of the three we now have.
In researching this post, I was reminded yet again of what an extraordinary effort 2019 was, still somewhat concealed by the margin of Grand Final victory. With two rounds to go, we were fourth, a game and 4.2% behind third. And in our last two games, we had to play West Coast (third) and Brisbane (second). Both were at the G and we won them both, but a loss to either would have seen us finish fifth.
