We're a not so happy team at Hawthorn.
From chocolates to boiled lollies in one season.
The Hawks reached Everest ahead of schedule, but what's gone wrong?
They might say nothing, a bad year only, but there are cracks that have been already given plaster, but do they need bricks instead?
Of course Hawkers will tell you their defense has been crunched, but is this only part of the story?
Let's see.
Ok, first the midfield.
Bateman 28, Mitchell 27, Ladson 26, Sewell 26, and now Burgoyne 27. The Hawker midfield and not far off twilighter territory.
Hodge is 25 but he rarely plays midfield. Rioli 20, Moss 21, but are they genuine midfielders, or forwards posing as midfielders.
To me this is a key problem for the Hawkers.
Rucks.
Campbell gone, Taylor 27 when available, Bailey 23 effectively gone, then its a long jump down to Renouf 21, Lowden 19.
And why would you buy a 193cm ruckman in Skipper? No sense, when Jolly or Seaby were available.
The Hawks are in a pickle at present. They've got forwards, but their recasting their defense, their midfield has cracks, and they're struggling in the rucks.
Interesting times at Arctic Park.
