I don't necessarily agree he was blindsided, but he was personally shocked. The rest of the article talks about how they've been gradually taking things out of his remit. He wasn't part of the Yze selection for example.Interesting article by Caro in the Saturday Age.

Personally, I think it showed disrespect to a great Richmond Immortal.
His health isn't great (eg doctor told him not to go to Adelaide and travel away from specialists), and he said he has some trouble controlling his emotions.
I think if he reflects on it in a couple of years, the signs were there.
Shame they did it in the Milk Bar though. That's a *smile* poor Jerry Maguire tactic. We should be better than that to someone so influential.
