2021 Draft Thread

But why not keep 3 and trade out 19 or 22?
I get they have academy kids coming in and all players are contracted so they want to make minimum changes.
But a golden rule should be never trade out pick 1,2 or 3
TBH, I'm not sure either.
Is it b/c they want the salary dump and genuinely want to encourage a team to take a couple of contracted players off their hands??
Is it b/c they want established Best 22 players from other teams to balance their young stars?

Either way, if we have 3 and 7 - and I'm not smart enough to understand how - I'd be rapt. 2 x Mids for me.

I think they want a future first round pick and no one is going to give that up for picks in the 20’s (as 19 will become). They’re also reputedly keen on Conway who a pick in the teens or even 20’s would be enough to get.

If we are prepared to give up our 2022 first, I’d say we’re a fair chance to be able to land 3 - while probably trading 15 for 19 or 22 as well. From a GC perspective it’s not a terrible trade as 3 will become 5 and if we have a season like this year they’ll be getting a top 10 pick back, plus moving up this year.

Sheehan also said Fiona was the most likely to be a Brownlow medalist from his draft year.
There's heaps Kong.
Especially for a bloke that has made a living out of this.
He said McCartin will change the way clubs look at forwards.
The Pettifier one got to me.
I saw him at the 2008 Draft and i mentioned it to him and he wasn't too pleased.
I never take on board his feed back on the kids.

It may seem obvious, but it does seem to be overlooked by a few posters that our pick 7, will likely be pick 9 and pick 15, actually 18 or 19. There are many saying that we will have the pick of this player or that player - and in most instances I reckon those players will be off the board by then. For example we are more realistically looking at Rachele with our first pick based on best available - but no one is talking about him - rather most are talking about the highest rated bigger bodied pure mids, who will likely be off the table.

My thinking is that if we pick two mids with our first two picks this year we’ll be going after an elite free agent / uncontracted big in the next two years. At least - I hope that’s the way they’re going about it.

There’s been some discussion about Rachele in previous pages SOJ and being a climber in the draft order.

Listening to the interview with Tim Livingstone on AW he said twice that we will be strengthening the list for this year and next year which by the way he said it made it feel we,ll be using some of this years picks to trade into next year.

If Hobbs, Gibcus and Ward are all gone as expected and we can't trade down from 9 then expect our pick will be either Rachele or Sonsie. Both u/16 most valuable player winners for their State team with Rachele taking out the best overall.

Rachele has gone from a mid at u/16 level to a small forward at u/18 level hence the questions whilst Sonsie has not captured his earlier form after some injuries.

Probably a line ball which one they go for. Testing and interview will play a big part.

I would also have Sinn in that mix.

Was just about to post same TT, I have posted the Tim Livingston interview as a thread on it's own so people can view.
He emphasized twice that our strong draft hand would be used this year and hopefully strengthening NEXT.
Virtually totally rules out trading away next years' 1st rounder which I were never on board with anyway and posted we should instead be trying to improve next years' draft hand at the same time.

Yeah your right we need pace and kicking skills. Don't discount Wanganeen-Milera either. Another with big upside and we desperately need x2 quality Wingman. Both would be nice :D

There are questions on both Sonsie and Rachele upside when they've arguably gone backwards from U/16 level. Clubs had similar concerns about Higgins which unfortunately we ignored. Hopefully we've learnt our lesson from that.

Yes, 100% that's how I interpreted his comments too.

Yep, wishful/fanciful thinking gets in the way of reality.

Added bonus will be the salt coming from Druggies fans if we select Wanganeen. He is pure silk.

TBH Toothless and SOJ, I don't think it's wishful thinking and I don't think posters are forgetting the reality.

We all know 3 is 5 and 7 is 9, 15 is 17 etc. I think everyone understands that and is looking at the talent pool w/out Daicos, HF and Darcy.
It's prob just a matter of writing the posts so as to not confuse anyone by sticking to the current Pick Number.

Just read that Jason Horne only recently added the Francis (to make his name Jason Horne-Francis ) because his stepdad is former Melbourne and Brisbane player Fabian Francis.
